WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY 2022

 World mental health day

Theme:Make mental health for all a global priority.

The world mental health day was first observed on the 10th October,1992 by a group of professional under the umbrella of world Federation of Mental health (WFMH). World Mental Health Day is celebrated on the 10th of October and this year's theme is  ‘Make Mental Health & Well-Being for All a Global Priority’. This theme was chosen by a global vote that was open to the public, including WFMH members, stakeholders, and supporters .

The World Health Organization (WHO) conceptualizes mental health as a “state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community”.

Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make healthy choices.

Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood and therefore it should be a global priority that we can live in a world mental health is valued, promoted and protected; where everyone has an equal opportunity to enjoy mental health and to exercise their human rights; and where everyone can access the mental health care they need.

There is a need to must deepen the value and commitment we give to mental health as individuals, communities and governments .  We must strengthen mental health care so that the full spectrum of it needs is met through a community-based network of accessible, affordable and quality services and supports.

Mental health in a prerequisite for physical health. Not only is it protective against physical illnesses and linked to greater productivity, but the mental wellbeing of a population is essential for a country's sustainability, long-term growth and development.Even though mental health is inclusive in SDG goal 3 (Good health and wellbeing),it is not well prioritized. There is a need for us to see beyond just physical health.Everybody mental health matters.
